The Library Train

Back in college days, if you had some studying to do, you headed for the library. Not being in college any more, but still having some railroad related studying to do and having some unused Amtrak tickets in the drawer, the answer was obvious… Turn the Surfliner into a study hall. I road down and back to Union Station in Los Angeles with lunch at Traxx, got all my reading done, and took a few pictures. These pics are in chronological and geographical order, SLO to LA and back.

  • DSC_0559: Abandoned AIROX mine a few miles north of Casmalia. The furnace visible in the photo was built in 1918, and was used for extracting petroleum from oil shale quarried on site. Casmalia is about 10 miles south of Guadalupe and about 35 miles south of San Luis Obispo on the ex-SP Coast Line.
